WordPress is the most popular Content Management System (CMS) in existence, powering more than 30% of websites globally.

However, as it grows, hackers have taken note and are beginning to specifically target WordPress sites.

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing which sites are at risk.

This makes it so important to maintain a high level of security for your WordPress site.

Sucuri reported that WordPress accounted for 90% of hacked websites in 2018.

While the WordPress core software is very secure and is audited regularly by hundreds of developers, there is a lot that can be done to keep your site secure.

At Nivo Digital, we implement the latest technology and processes to keep those hackers away from accessing your site and your client’s details.

However, there are a few things that YOU can do to help keep your website safe.

Use your email to log in

Using an email to log into your Dashboard is a much more secure approach. It’s a lot easier for hackers to predict usernames than email addresses

Adjust your passwords

Play around with your passwords and change them regularly to secure your WordPress website. Improve their strength by adding uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Many people opt for a related phrase to their site, which of course makes it easy for a hacker to predict. However, going with an unrelated password that includes a mixture of numbers, letters and special characters will be so hard to guess.

Change the ‘admin’ username

When setting up a new user for your WordPress site it’s so easy to go with ‘admin’ as its impossible to forget, on the downside this makes your site really vulnerable to hackers. Make sure to change this to something more difficult to predict.

Add user accounts with care and keep track of them

You may have other users uploading content to your site, such as blog posts or imagery. It’s therefore good practice to keep a record of the user accounts that you are handing out as the login details could get into the hands of the wrong person.

Let’s keep your site clear of those hackers!
